About the event
Steeped in history, no-one knows for sure how old Mummers' plays are, but they are undoubtedly one of the oldest surviving features of a traditional English festive period. The play is loosely based on the St George and the Dragon story and is intended to show the struggle between good and evil. The Symondsbury version of the play is one of the fullest surviving versions in the country. There will be much sword fighting, a death and then a miraculous cure. All you need, in fact, to start off your new year!
